Zentangle coloring pages

Zentangle pages fill a simple outline, like a cat, an owl, an elephant or a hot air balloon, with small repeating patterns: stripes, scales, spirals, dots and leaves. Every section is its own little puzzle, so you can color one pattern at a time and stop whenever you like, which makes them a calm way to unwind after a busy day. Because the patterns are detailed, they suit teenagers and adults best, although older children enjoy them too when they work one area at a time. Fine-tip markers, gel pens and well sharpened colored pencils are the easiest tools for the small spaces. You can keep the page mostly black and white and color only a few sections, or use a different color for every pattern for a bright, mosaic-like result. Download the free PDF and print it on thicker paper if you use markers, so the ink doesn’t bleed through, or color the page on screen in the Pencilbloom app.

How to print and color this page

Every coloring page on Pencilbloom is a free printable PDF with clean, closed outlines, so each area is easy to fill without going over the lines. Here is how to get the best result at home.

  1. Tap Download PDF to save the page, or Print to send it straight to your printer. When both sizes are offered, pick A4 or US Letter to match your paper.
  2. Print at 100% scale, often called “actual size”, so the outlines stay sharp and nothing is cut off at the edges.
  3. Use plain white paper for colored pencils and crayons. For markers or paint, thicker paper of 120 g/m² or more stops the ink from bleeding through.
  4. Start with the largest areas in light colors, then add darker shades, patterns and small details last. Light layers are easier to fix than dark ones. If you don’t like a color, you can usually cover it with a darker one.
  5. Take your time: a detailed page can take an hour or more, and it is fine to finish it over a few days. Good light makes the colors easier to judge.
  6. Not sure which colors to choose? Open the page in the Pencilbloom app: its camera shows which color goes where on your printed sheet, one area at a time.
  7. Coloring with kids? Print one copy each, or print a spare to test your colors before you start on the real page. Little ones can start with the big areas and leave the fine details to grown-ups.

When you finish, pick another picture from the coloring pages below, or learn to draw one yourself with a step-by-step lesson.
